This past weekend, I presented at Notable Pursuits, which is a showcase for local artists started by The Light House Project. This was the Anniversary episode, in honor of Deah, Yusor, and Razan, who tragically passed away three years ago, around this time. The organizers asked me to address hardship or struggle in my talk. For me, that meant sharing the story of how I’ve managed to survive the last fifteen years of darkness, and emerge from that with an even stronger conviction that words can transform the heart, and that I’m going to dedicate my life to writing them. Poetry has been an important part of that journey.
Poems, in order:
lovespill
hands
dark days
the body
burdens
